The schedule for 2010-2011 is starting to develop, see the schedule page and check back for updates.
Riverside Illinois
Details - KeeWahSheena Tribe

Riverside Scout Cabin

The Scout Cabin, located on the Des Plaines River in Indian Gardens Park is our home base. At least four meetings are held there during the season. At these meeting we recite the Aims and Pledge, have the kids pass around the Talking Stick, discuss up-coming events, plan for the next campout, make a craft and have a snack. As the meeting winds-down, the dad's socialize and we let the boys be boys.

Tribal Activities
Boys have a hard time sitting still and unlike their sisters in the Princess Tribe, they are not as enthusiastic when it comes to completing a craft or listening to a story. So, with that in mind, we like to take the show on the road. The KeeWahSheena finds fun things to do that both Dad's and Son's can enjoy. A favorite is Laser Tag which has become a fall tradition. We also have a Bowling Night and in late winter, a Swim Party. Right at the end of the season (and at the beginning of Baseball Season) we take a trip to the Batting Cages. These events, along with the Scout Cabin meetings and Campouts provide a well-rounded schedule of activities. For those who want more, the Federation offers many of other activities to choose from. These include an outing to a Major or Minor League Sporting Event, a sleepover at one Chicago's Museums (very popular), an annual Pinewood Derby competition and other planned events.

Community Service

Part of the mission of the Indian Guides program is to give back to the community by performing civic and charitable activities. KeeWahSheena fathers and sons participate in at least three events that benefit the larger community.

Secret Santa - as part of the Federation, KeeWahSheena participates in the Secret Santa Program run by the Community Nurse Health Association of LaGrange. The program provides a package of clothing, school supplies, toiletries and a gift to over 900 children during the Holiday Season. KeeWahSheena's goal is to sponsor four kids each year.

Christmas Caroling - KeeWahSheena teams-up with the Riverside Princess Tribe for Christmas Caroling at a local senior facility. This years event is pending.

Giving Tree - as part of the Federation, KeeWahSheena participates in the Giving Tree Program run by the Rich Port YMCA. The giving tree program provides a week of camp to children who would not otherwise be able to attend a camp program. KeeWahSheena's goal is to sponsor three to five kids each year.

Other Activities - Federation Christmas Tree Sale - the Federation sells Christmas Trees with the proceeds going to the Rich Port YMCA; Campout "Pass the Hat" - at Sunday morning breakfast, a voluntary collection is usually taken with the proceeds going to Special Olympics.

Everyone Pitches-In

Indian Guides is a voluntary activity and we try and keep the fees and cost as reasonable as possible. Everyone is asked to help-out in small ways by organizing an activity, bringing snacks to a Scout Cabin meeting, shopping for Secret Santa, cleaning-up after an event, bringing items to share at the Compout, writing a Tribal Cheer or completing other special projects. Everyone is busy so we only ask that each individual contribute as much time as they are comfortable with.
